2006

The Pendragon Panthers purchased two outrigger canoes to provide the serious dragon boat paddlers with an opportunity to cross train in another paddling disciple. The club purchased one canoe from Kio Kia and the other boat from Port Hacking. The Port Hacking canoe was bought from funds kindly donated by Mark Harrold and Greg Nelson. The banana boat was  out of action for a month while the Blade Runner was used three times a week by those brave enough to face the cold morning starts. The purchase of these canoes provided paddlers with a welcome opportunity to try something a bit different and help to further improve paddler strength and fitness.

To see out 2006, the Pendragons took on the Nepean river crewing both OC6s. The day provided great weather and a flat calm river. After rigging the canoes we were on our way just after 7.00 am. With a full compliment in both canoes, a good average pace of 10.4 km/hr was set over the 25 km course. This average speed included capsizing on the Banana Boat at the 10 km mark. Had the BB not capsized we would have easily averaged in excess of 11 km/hr. After a hard workout, a breakfast of bacon and eggs was appreciated by all.
